The garden at the Chateau on the Park has been redeveloped since 1992 around existing mature trees. The predominant species are roses, camellias and rhododendrons, the formal rose garden being a special attraction. Courtyards provide structure, with a moat bordering the reception area, which can be viewed from inside through glassed walls. The water garden around the moat is planted with moisture-loving species such as hostas, native ferns and water fuchsias.

Weddings are popular in the inner courtyard at any time of the year, plantings providing seasonal colour mainly in pinks, blues and whites. Spring bulbs and beds of spring flowers accompany the camellias and rhododendrons. Protected trees include a large magnolia which adds to the spring display, and an English oak contributing to the lovely autumn colour. A woodland area attracts many birds to enhance the spring atmosphere.

The rose garden is the prime summer feature with the Garden Court Brasserie looking out on to the roses. Summer also features prolific cottage plantings of perennials including candytuft, phlox, lobelia and salvia which complement the annual begonias, alyssum, pansies and polyanthus. This unusually extensive garden in a hotel setting borders Christchurch’s famous Hagley Park.
